Ecliptic | Zodiac Playing Cards

Posted by Adria Ovdiyenko on

For the past year I've been quietly working on a new card project that I'm excited to finally announce. It's a zodiac themed deck called Ecliptic Playing Cards. It's 100% hand drawn - every detail slaved over by yours truly. It's a beautiful deck and I'm happy to share the tuck designs with you here:

Look for more info in the coming days here and on my Facebook page. I'll be launching it on January 1st, 2018 on Kickstarter.

Thanks!

Launching Hobo Coins Series II Sunday, Nov. 5th @ 12pm EST

Posted by Chris Ovdiyenko on

I'm super excited to be launching the second series of Hobo Coins. I've been working on this for a while now and it's going to be great to get the new designs out there. Personally, I think there even better than the first group of hobo coins I produced. 4 all-new designs and also a limited edition print - the first I've done in color. Here's a pic of the print (if you right click on it, you can open in a new tab or window and see it in high-res):

Hope to see you over at Kickstarter on the 5th!

Hobo Coins Live on Kickstarter

Posted by Adria Ovdiyenko on

Hobo Coins Now Live on Kickstarter!

For many months, I’ve been working on a coin project called Hobo Coins. During the Great Depression, many of the folks that were out of work and having a really hard go of it took to carving Buffalo Nickels to pass their time. Though not the only coins that were carved, Buffalo Nickels were popular to modify because the metal was ‘soft,’ and easier than other coins to modify using sharpened nails or pocket knives.

I’m amazed at the creativity and passion these artists showed with their miniature works of art and got inspired to create my own. This project brings forth 4 designs for coins that I’ve created with hobo nickels as their inspiration. Here’s what I’ve come up with:

All of these designs are production samples from the mint where they’ll be produced. The coins are the same size as all my other coins – 39mm. They’re die-struck with over 100 tons of pressure and really capture every detail I’ve designed – I couldn’t be more thrilled with the samples!

Come on over to the Kickstarter project to learn more:

Arcana expansion cards are here!

Posted by Chris Ovdiyenko on

After a very long and anxious wait, the expansion cards are here, and they really are beautiful. Here are some pics:

Arcana Expansion Cards

I think you'll agree they look great! So now the hard work of fulfilling our Kickstarter orders is underway. We're expecting it'll take about a month and a half until we're done. If you're reading this here on our blog, my guess is that you might like to pick up some cards and other Arcana items. We will be making them available here on deadonpaper.com, but we want to get a bunch of the original backers out first. After their wait it only seemed fair to hold off for a little before we post them for sale. But check back in a little while, we will be putting them up likely the week of the 17th.

Illustrated Guide to Arcana

Posted by Chris Ovdiyenko on

This past week I got a great surprise - the Illustrated Guide to Arcana came in from the publisher about a week ahead of  time. I'm absolutely thrilled with how it turned out. The premium leatherette cover feels really nice in the hand, and the printing is crazy sharp and has a crispness that shows off the illustrations even better than the cards:

Can't wait to get these out to folks. This is the first book Dead On Paper has published, but I don't think it'll be the last ;)
